The Buddy Holly Story

Directed by Erik Furuheim

Opens November 16, 2018

Come experience a part of rock and roll history! This November the Newport Performing Arts Center will be rocking to the music of Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story. Directed by Erik Furuheim, with Musical Direction by Howard Lackey, the show features professional actor Matt McClure in the title role. McClure hails from New York and has been performing this role for several years across the country. We are excited that he was available for this show and highly anticipate having him in Newport for six weeks for rehearsals and shows.

Loved by critics and audiences alike, Buddy tells the enduring tale of the musical icon’s meteoric rise to fame and his final legendary performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, before his tragic and untimely death at the age of 22. In 18 short months the Texas-born boy revolutionized the face of contemporary music influencing everyone from The Beatles to Bruce Springsteen. Audiences will be treated to 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits, including timeless classics ‘That’ll Be The Day’, ‘Peggy Sue’, ‘Oh Boy’ and ‘Rave On’.

Since its inception, Buddy has inspired a generation of multi-million selling juke-box musicals including Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You, but remains the true original and a musical phenomenon. It is the world's most successful rock & roll musical, having been seen by over 22 million music fans since it opened in London’s West End in 1989, Buddy speaks an international language and continues to have audiences from aged 8 to 80 years old rockin’ in the aisles across the globe! Don't miss this Buddy!—November 16 - December 2 at the Newport Performing Arts Center!
